We expect our graduates to enter the helicopter industry as professional flight instructors. No matter whether our students aspire to EMS or fire or corporate charter, flight instruction is the best and often only way to build the experience necessary. Therefore, we believe in preparing our students to become effective instructors as well as developing the attitude necessary to succeed in the industry. There are many competing training programs that teach instructors to the minimum standards required by the FAA. We do not feel the FAA's course on "Fundamentals of instruction" is really sufficient to give our students the skills they need to become effective instructors. This course is normally taught in 2 weeks at most programs. We believe that aviation education is a true 'discipline.' Every other industry knows that mastery of certain skills, will make teachers more effective in sharing knowledge. We have worked with professional educators to design curriculum based on 'real-world' teaching methods. Please do not mis-understand, the FAA's "Fundamentals of Instruction" course is an excellent resource, we just feel there is more an instructor should know. This 'advanced' instructional training makes our graduates more employable, because they are more effective instructors. The professional development program is integrated throughout your experience at Blue Sky Aviation. Subjects are broken into modules and taught in the classroom/seminar training along with other flight training subjects. The mentorship program gives students an opportunity to practice the teaching skills taught in the professional development program. We recognize that the skills necessary to be successful in the helicopter industry are not restricted to the cockpit. While most programs focus only on teaching the student to effectively manipulate the controls, we are interested in fully preparing our graduates to succeed in the industry. While it is true that most operators look at your hours and ratings for employment consideration, your attitude and professionalism will ultimately determine your success. While we cannot teach attitude, we can influence your work-habits, self-confidence, and communication skills to give you a distinct advantage in the industry. We focus on real-world career development issues.. Our students gain confidence through practical situational exercises designed to give our graduates the skills they need for success. Many business professionals pay thousands of dollars for this type of personal training. We are proud to offer this program to all Blue Sky Aviation flight training students. If you leave the program for any reason, you will not be charged for this aspect of the training. We do it because it will make you a successful helicopter pilot and instructor, and as your reputation grows, so will ours!
