HELICOPTER TRAINING ACADEMY

"The way a flight school should be"

Return To Academy Programs Page

Part Time Academy

Estimated Completion Time: 24— 26 Months

Course includes:  Career Flight Training Package

Not everyone can drop out of life and start flight training full time.  This course will let you keep your job while preparing you for your next career as a professional helicopter pilot!

The part time academy meets Saturday 8a—5p and flights are scheduled three times per week to meet the student’s schedule.  If flights are missed during the week, make-ups can usually be conducted on Sundays.  Classes do not meet during Winter break the last 2 weeks of December and all federal holiday weekends.  Students are also expected to meet with their mentors outside of class one time per week at a mutually convenient time and advanced students are expected to mentor a junior classmate a minimum of once per week.

This program includes all the benefits of the full-time academy, but extended over a longer period of time to accommodate our students other life and work demand.  This program is very demanding and although the time to complete the course is spread over two years, the costs are also spread over two years making this option more viable for some students.

We also require spouses and families to attend a special informational seminar prior to accepting your enrollment.  It is important that your family understand how the program works and how to support your choice in this endeavor.

EXCLUSIONS:  Students are not entitled to housing.  Students wishing to participate in housing may do so at an additional expense.  Because this course is extended, it is likely that the student will require additional training.   Helicopter skills are perishable and flying 3 times per week is the absolute minimum we recommend our students fly without losing aptitude.  Work and home life will likely cause distractions that may extend training beyond the specified budget.  Housing costs will be discounted from the package price at the time of contract.
