It's been awhile...... Lot's going on!!! |
Quote of the Day: Too many people
are thinking of security instead of opportunity.
They seem more afraid of life
than death. The
reason most people never reach their goals is that they don't
define them, or ever seriously
consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you
where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will
be sharing the adventure with them.
If you
want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to
get there. Then never,
never, never give up.

Well, first, sorry for the long delay between
newsletters. Life comes at you fast sometimes, just like the TV
commercial says... At Bluesky, we've been in a period of
transition. The good news for you is bad news for an operator like
me!!!! Anyone that doesn't believe there's a pilot shortage should try operating a flight school for awhile... Scott Clancy, the lead pilot at Bluesky Aviation, reached 1000 hours of flight time after working at Bluesky for about a year. He has been hired by Rotorcraft Leasing and will be flying in support of offshore oil production & exploration in the gulf of Mexico. It sounds like he'll start out flying the Bell 206 Long Ranger and likely moving up to the Bell 407 soon after. I asked him if the demand for pilots was as strong as everyone said and he replied with a resounding YES! I already knew that, because the last pilot that worked for me that had 1000 hours got hired to fly in the Gulf... The good news is the airlines are slowing down, so I was able to hire an old acquaintance that started flying helicopters, transitioned to airplanes and wanted to get back into the helicopter business (Good news for me!) Chris Harris started work at Bluesky last month and literally 'hit the ground running... He has almost 1800 hours total time (Airplane and Helicopter combined). Chris comes from the regional airlines, so he brings a lot of experience and insight from that industry. We are very lucky to have him here at Bluesky; he knows a lot about flying and the best part is he loves instructing... Many of you have spoken with or received emails from David Sholiton. David has been our admissions officer/account manager for the past 10 months and he has taken a job as an ag-pilot apprentice the first part of June. David was doing his training here at Bluesky, and actually got hired as a private pilot, 2 weeks before he took his commercial check-ride... David's been working like crazy learning the new job and he absolutely loves it! He went straight from the Robinson R-22 to the Bell 206 with around 150 flight hours!! David's a good hard worker and will do well in this career. Unfortunately for me, this all came faster than both he or I expected. We thought it may take a couple of months, but when the call came that they needed a pilot, David went to work the next day!!!! So, congratulations to David, and I wish him the best! As a result of David's departure from the company, I will now be personally able to answer your questions and represent the company. I"ve delegated more of my responsibilities so I can help share my passion for aviation to help those who want to live their dreams (Like I did) by flying helicopters for a living. If any of you have questions, or are ready to start your career in helicopter aviation, I can help you with that! You can reach me at 888-685-7405, or email at: ron@bluesky-aviation.com Unfortunately, with reshuffling my job responsibilities and getting Chris started, the newsletter has fell by the wayside, until now! We've got a lot of new changes to the newsletter on the way over the next week or so. Although many of you may appreciate the 90's look of our web-based newsletter, I've found a company that will help me publish my newsletters in something that looks a bit more 'current.' You will all be asked to subscribe to the newsletters again. The new program has better 'spam' protections and the good news is we won't risk sending our information to people that don't want it. Believe me, I hate spam, and I sure won't do it to anyone else, so that was a huge selling point in making my decision to transition the newsletter to a different platform... So, if you receive an email in the next few days about subscribing to our newsletter, no we haven't sold your email address (Nor will we ever do that), we're just upgrading our system so we have the latest tools to deliver our newsletter that will resume a more regular publish schedule! All for now! Fly Safe! Ron Overacker, CEO Blue Sky Aviation |
